Electric vehicles are equipped with batteries. At this stage, the batteries used in electric vehicles are mostly lithium batteries. Compared with other batteries, lithium batteries are widely used in the energy of electric vehicles because of their advantages such as high voltage, high specific energy, long charge and discharge life, no memory effect, no pollution, faster charging, low self-discharge rate, first-class working temperature range and safety.So let give a brief introduction to the advantages and disadvantages of the different electric vehicle battery.


1. Lead-acid batteries

Advantages: Lead-acid batteries have low cost, good low temperature and a high performance-price ratio.

Disadvantages: low energy density, short life, large volume, poor safety.

Usage: Due to the low energy density and service life, it is not possible to have a good speed and a high range, generally used for low-speed vehicles.

2. NiMH batteries

Advantages: NiMH battery has low cost, mature technology, long life and durability;

Disadvantages: low energy density, large volume, low voltage, and battery memory effect. Contains heavy metals and causes environmental pollution when discarded.

Usage: Better performance than lead-acid batteries.

3. Lithium manganate batteries

Advantages: Lithium manganate battery is a positive material with low cost, good safety and low-temperature performance;

Disadvantages: The material itself is not stable, easy to decompose and produce gas, its cycle life decays quickly, it is prone to swelling, high-temperature performance is poor, and its life is relatively short;

Usage: Mainly used for large and medium type cores, power batteries, with a nominal voltage of 3.7V.

4. Lithium iron phosphate batteries

Advantages: Lithium iron phosphate battery has good thermal stability, safety, low cost and long life;

Disadvantages: low energy density, fear of low temperatures.

Usage: When the temperature of the battery is 500-600 C, its internal chemical composition begins to decompose, and puncture, short circuit, high temperature will not burn or explode, and its service life is longer. 

5. Ternary lithium batteries

Advantages: Ternary lithium-ion batteries have a high energy density, long cycle life, and no fear of low temperatures.

Disadvantages: Insufficient stability at high temperatures.

Purpose: Pure electric vehicle with required mileage, which is the mainstream direction, suitable for cold weather, and more stable battery at low temperatures.
